Big things are happening at McGimsey Scout Park this summer — and it all starts at the pool.
Thanks to a generous donation from the Hirsch Family Fund, the beloved in-ground pool at McGimsey is being resurfaced and undergoing much-needed repairs, just in time for this year’s summer camp season. This improvement is more than just a facelift — it’s the foundation for something bigger.
The Alamo Area Council is proud to launch its first-ever Aquatics Resident Camp, an exciting new experience for youth who want to build water skills, earn merit badges, and have fun in the sun. In addition, McGimsey will host a full lineup of All Ages Day Camp, open to the public, offering kids from across the area the chance to swim, explore, and connect with nature — even if they’re brand-new to Scouting.
For Cub Scouts especially, the pool has always been a favorite summer highlight. But now, thanks to the Hirsch Family Fund, this resource is being elevated to serve even more youth — from new swimmers to advanced aquatics enthusiasts.
Behind this incredible gift are two Scouts who understand the power of Scouting firsthand: Ella and Benjamin Hirsch, siblings and longtime members of the program. When given the opportunity to support a cause through their family’s fund, they knew right away that Scouting was where they wanted to start.
“We wanted to make a real impact, and this is our way of giving back,” said Ella.
The improvements to the McGimsey pool are just the beginning. Throughout the summer, we’ll be sharing more stories of how the Hirsch Family — and these remarkable young leaders — are continuing to invest in the future of Scouting.
The pool represents the first step in a legacy of generosity and vision. And thanks to Ella, Benjamin, that legacy starts this summer — with splashes, smiles, and a whole lot of fun.
