Scouting in the Alamo Area didn’t just happen.
It was built over time by people who believed in it and chose to support it.
That same idea is what the 1912 Society is all about.
If you look at the stories we’ve been sharing, you can see the pattern. There’s Franklin S. Spears, who carried what he learned as a Scout into a career in law and public service. Then there are the De Luna brothers, whose lives show what long-term commitment to service can look like . And before them, Lewis Kayton, the first known Eagle Scout in our council, figuring it all out when Scouting itself was still new.
Different people. Different outcomes. Same starting point.
Scouting meets kids where they are and gives them something to build on. Sometimes that turns into big, visible leadership. Sometimes it’s quieter. A kid gaining confidence. Learning how to work with others. Making a better decision because they remember what they were taught. Those moments don’t just happen on their own. They’re supported by people who care enough to keep the program going.
That’s where the 1912 Society comes in.
It’s a simple idea.
A small monthly commitment, set up as an automatic payment of $19.12.
When enough people take part, it adds up. It helps keep camps running. It makes it possible for families to say yes, even when money is tight. It also holds the door open for the this generation to invest in those who will come after.
Not every Scout will earn Eagle, and that’s okay. That’s not really the point. The point is what they take with them. The confidence. The friendships. The sense that they can handle more than they thought they could.
When you join the 1912 Society, you’re helping make that possible for someone else.
You’re not just giving to a program. You’re giving a kid a chance to figure out who they are and what they can do.
